Speaker Bio:

Nurith grew up in Germany and, after a semester-long stint in California during her junior year of high school, moved to the US permanently at 20 years of age. She received her B.S. in Biological Sciences from Stanford University, with a minor in Cultural and Social Anthropology. She then completed her Ph.D. in Neurosciences at the University of California, San Diego, with a dissertation on modeling cognitive deficits with relevance to schizophrenia in rodents. Further following her interest in the neurobiological bases of psychiatric disorders, she investigated the role of signaling enzymes in alcohol drinking and anxiety during a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California San Francisco's Ernest Gallo Clinic and Research Center. In a second postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California San Diego, she focused on modeling deficits in cognition and motivation in schizophrenia and Tourette's syndrome. She is also interested in scientific writing and editing as well as teaching, and has worked as a scientific writer (both for an academic laboratory and freelance) and co-taught an undergraduate Cellular Neurosciences course at San Francisco State University. Most recently, Nurith has moved into the life sciences industry, where she has worked at preclinical contract research organizations (CROs). After two years working at Explora BioLabs as a Scientist I / Research Team Leader, she has recently started to work as an In Vivo Project Manager at Absorption Systems.
